The historic cloister and interiors of the Santa Caterina monastery in Palermo

The Monastery of Santa Caterina

Testo: A place of deep spirituality, but also and above all of art and culture, where the noble Dominican nuns left an indelible mark of their earthly passage. It is a place to walk through with the eyes of the mind, letting yourself be guided by the play of lights and shadows, the scent of time, and the long silences that characterize empty spaces once filled with chants and prayers.

The Monastery Terraces

The terraces, once called logge, allowed the religious women—bound by a strict cloister—to have a privileged window overlooking the world. Today, from these terraces, you can capture the entire beauty of the city, embracing it all from the sea to the mountains of the Conca d'Oro. Indeed, only the birds and the angels are otherwise allowed to admire the great beauty of majolica domes, tall bell towers, surviving loggias, majestic roofs, and ancient palaces from above.

Palermo at a Slow Pace

Strolling on foot and exploring the winding alleys and ancient streets paved with traditional basole stones, visitors can discover small oratories, votive shrines, hidden courtyards, secret gardens, and local artisan workshops.

Palermo, a Stratified City

Palermo is a fascinating and multicultural city where different eras, cultures, languages, and traditions have overlapped through the centuries, creating a unique tapestry of architecture, flavors, rituals, and memories.
